I spy Native Shoes' Fall/Winter 2015 collection yesterday while I was in Glorietta 4 in Makati. There's a spectacular range of diverse yet streamlined present-day footwear that embraces both cultures of the past and the future. The all-new Geographica collection stays true to the brand's Future Classics philosophy with inspiration taken from four popular destinations- Japan, Mexico, Morocco, and Tanzania.
Morocco
Verona |
Native takes inspiration from Morocco's classic Safi Mosaic art practice. This season, the Verona comes equipped in a distinctly exotic mosaic print in muted hues, while a black, gray, and white 3D checkered print is seen on the Fitzsimmons and Miller silhouettes share cues with classic Moroccan tile work.
Tanzania
Lynnie Zulu Eye and Face Print |
London-based artist, Lynnie Zulu, lends her artistic capabilities to several styles in Native's lineup. With an artist mother who was born in Tanzania, Zulu's work carries a distinctive African influence. As the cover artist of Native's editorial supplement, The Native Tongue, she takes her inspired motifs and applies them to the Fitzsimmons, Verona and Jericho styles.
The Lynnie Zulu Eye Print combines a black upper on the Jericho and Fitzsimmons and pairs it with a hand-drawn eye pattern in vibrant shades of teal and peach, while the Lynnie Zulu Face Print offers an illusionistic pattern in quail purple for the Verona and Fitzsimmons and mega marine blue for the Verona.
Japan
mid-cut Apollo Chukka |
The Apollo Series gets an update in the ancient Japanese embroidery process of Sahiko. Sahiko, meaning "Little Stabs", is an ancient Japanese embroidery art form that has been transported into the future in both the Apollo Moc and Apolo Chukka silhouettes.
Apollo Moc Embroidered |
The new reinforced, no-sew upper makes the Embroidered Apollo Series is seasonally aprropriate for the cooler months ahead. Both styles utilize a synthetic microfiber material as a core one-piece upper while the sole is comprised of EVA rubber for great grip.
low-cut Apollo Moc Embroidered |
My choice... Apollo Moc Embroidered in the color Cavalier Red. It retails for Php 4, 290. It's super soft and comfy. I can walk on these for hours because it is also very lightweight. Just slip it on and you are ready for your next adventure. Oh, may I add that the striking red color is attention magnet too?! I likey!
Mexico
Venice Embroidered & the Jefferson Print |
Native takes cues from the Otomi culture of Mexico by incorporating unique and eye-catching prints into the popular kids' styles- the Jefferson, Jimmy Boot, Miller, Verona and Venice.
Guess what is my daughter's choice? The Cockatoo Pink/BoneWhite/Otomi Jefferson Print (Php 1, 890), of course! She loves it so much that when she woke up this morning, it was the first thing she looked for. In fact, she is wearing the pair right now while still in her PJs ; p
