Playing Games | The Key to Great Parenting

Follow my blog with Bloglovin Parenting can be both challenging and rewarding. Parenting is seldom easy, but it's also the most fulfilling. For the most part, parents are always in search of the most effective ways to raise a child, however, the importance of playing games with children can sometimes be overlooked.

The initial step is for parents to look at gaming as an uncomplicated matter, and treat it like any other challenge you may encounter while raising a child.

"Sensationalism aside, as with all types of digital entertainment and Internet use, parents are the first and best line of defense when it comes to ensuring their kids stay safe online, whether playing games or using the Internet,” said David Dennis, Xbox 360 group manager. "This means taking an active role in their children's gaming by learning about and setting the parental controls on their child's video game console or PC, and maintaining an open dialogue."

Most parents are hesitant in allowing their children to play video and digital games as they find them to be too violent for their young minds. But, with responsible usage, playing computer or video games can make children ‘more sociable, happy and less hyperactive.’

Likewise, parents can benefit from playing games on their own. Gone are the days when PCs and consoles ruled the video game industry as mobiles and tablets are now the most popular medium to play games online and offline especially through apps.

A study featured in the Chicago Tribune revealed that parents who frequently play video games are less aggressive and have a more positive outlook on life.

However, it specifically talks about relaxing games, which are “defined as those that replace violent images and conquest objectives with soothing scenery and open-ended game play.” There are websites that host different relaxing gaming titles that work across all platforms (PC, tablet, mobile). Whether it is slowly working out a puzzle type game or enjoying famous movie slot titles such as Sherlock Holmes, Battlestar Galactica, and The Dark Knight Rises, these games help people forget about their day jobs and relax after the rigors of work and parenting.

As more relaxing games enter the market, parents are offered wider options and more ways to enhance the skills, which they need to conquer all the challenges that life throws at them.

What games do you enjoy to help you relax at night?
